Welcome to our blog. We really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to come and see us. We are Lucy and Nick – a husband and wife duo from the UK – who want to talk openly and frankly about mental health.
Why write a blog?
We think it’s fair to say that 2020 has been an exceptionally strange year for us all. Time seemed to slow down and things were put into perspective. We had highs (a lockdown baby) and we had lows (feeling trapped indoors and isolated from our world). We had days where we struggled yet days where we felt more content than ever. Discussing mental health became a constant topic of conversation in our house which inevitably sparked our interest to write this blog.
In both of our professions (Nick having a role in the NHS supporting those with mental health issues and Lucy as a Primary School Teacher), we witness first hand the impact that mental health can have on people in every walk of life. Mental health does not discriminate; it is not a state of mind but an illness.
We all suffer with our thoughts and feelings and it would be unnatural if we didn’t show our emotions. Since becoming parents, we have definitely felt more anxious about certain situations and have felt unexpected pressures to conform with society.
Mental health is real, it’s here to stay and we have to acknowledge its impact on our lives.
